Introducing our new home eyecare service

home eyecare service

We have recently launched a brand new Home Eyecare service at Ferrier and MacKinnon, designed to bring trusted, local eyecare to the whole of the Fife region including Dunfermline, Rosyth, North Queensferry, Inverkeithing, Crossgates, Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly, Burntisland and Dalgety Bay.

Our Home Visits Optometrist, Duncan Preston, commented, “Losing sight can be much more likely as we get older, so being able to test those who may he housebound is so important.”

“In Fife, anyone who is eligible for an NHS sight test but cannot get into our practice unaccompanied because of a mental or physical disability, can have a domiciliary sight test funded by the NHS.”

“Most of the essential equipment we use at Ferrier & MacKinnon now has a portable equivalent, and we have invested heavily in order to extend our service into patient’s own homes from Inverkeithing all the way to Newport-on-Tay.”

Mrs Houghton, one of our patients, who recently experienced the service first hand, was really impressed by her morning with the Home Eyecare team and added, “Before I knew about the Home Eyecare service, I had to use community transport to get into town which was a real nuisance. Luckily, my daughter heard that Ferrier & MacKinnon were now doing home visits.”

Paula, our Home Visit service’s Optical Advisor, added that “Mrs Houghton is typical of patients that we see every day that really benefit from local eyecare at home. She had struggled to make it in to our Kinross practice and wasn’t aware that we now offered a home visit service.”

Mrs Houghton commented “I was hesitant at first as you don’t know who is coming into your home with these large national companies. I must say, I was thrilled with Duncan & Paula from Ferrier & MacKinnon. The fact that I can have my eye health checked thoroughly in my own comfortable chair at home is a huge relief.”
